World Rally Championship: Spain 2017

WHAT A DELIGHT TO SEE KRIS MEEKE ON HIS BEST FORM AGAIN AS HE RETURNED TO ACTION! HIS CONFIDENCE HAD RETURNED IN FULL AND HE ATTACKED FROM THE WORD GO. HE FULLY DESERVED HIS VICTORY.

ANOTHER DRIVER WHO DESERVED A RECALL AS A WORKS DRIVER WAS ANDREAS MIKKELSEN WHO HAS SIGNED A 2 - YEAR CONTRACT WITH HYUNDAI FOR 2018 AND 2019 PLUS THE REMAINING 3 ROUNDS OF 2017 INCLUDING THIS RALLY OF SPAIN. UNFORTUNATELY, HE CHOSE A WEEKEND TO RETURN THAT TURNED OUT TO BE DISASTROUS FOR HYUNDAI WITH BOTH DANI SORDO AND ANDREAS COMING TO GRIEF ON THE SAME BEND THAT SMASHED THE SUSPENSION ON BOTH CARS AND FORCED THEIR RETIREMENT.

SORDO MANAGED TO WIN THE POWER STAGE TO ADD 5 POINTS TO THE TEAMS POOR TOTAL BUT MIKKELSEN ENDED POINTLESS AS DID ANOTHER TEAM MEMBER WHOSE LAST 2 RALLIES DID NOT PRODUCE ANY POINTS AT ALL AND THIERRY NEUVILLE IS NOW 38 POINTS BEHIND SEBASTIEN OGIER WHO LOOKS ODDS-ON FAVOURITE TO TAKE THE DRIVERS TITLE AGAIN.

SIMILARLY, MALCOM WILSON'S M-SPORT TEAM HAS AN 83-POINT LEAD IN THE CONSTRUCTORS TITLE RACE OVER HYUNDAI HELPED BY HYUNDAI'S POOR SHOWING IN THE LAST 2 ROUNDS AND THEIR OWN GOOD RESULTS. TITLE PROSPECT STILL LOOKING GOOD.
